Recently, Chuandong Shipyard has launched a 40-day technical upgrade on its 74-meter pontoon located in the harbor. This renovation aims to significantly enhance the buoyancy of the pontoon, increasing it from 1,800 tons to 2,500 tons. The upgraded equipment will play a crucial role in supporting the construction of the factory's new 10,000-ton ship project.
The pontoon is a vital component in the ship launching process at Chuandong Plant. It acts as a key auxiliary tool that helps in the towing and turning of ships during the launch. Along with the inclined frame, it forms a complete ship launching system. Originally built in the 1970s, the 74-meter-long and 16-meter-wide pontoon was designed for smaller vessels. However, with the rapid development of the factory over the years, the ship products have evolved from the 3,000-ton class to the current 10,000-ton class, making the old pontoon insufficient for modern requirements.
To address this challenge, the factory has decided to carry out a comprehensive technical upgrade. The renovation will expand the pontoon’s width from 16 meters to 21 meters and increase its lifting capacity to 2,500 tons. In addition, the plant will also reconfigure the skid system within the harbor basin to better accommodate the movement and steering of the 10,000-ton ships. These improvements are expected to boost operational efficiency and ensure smoother ship launching processes.
This transformation marks an important step forward for Chuandong Shipyard as it adapts to the growing demands of the shipbuilding industry. With these upgrades, the facility is well-positioned to support larger and more complex vessel projects in the future.
