On the morning of July 15, the FAW Group unveiled its sixth-generation product, the Liberation J6, at its production base in Changchun. This marked the official launch of the new model, signaling a major milestone in China's commercial vehicle industry.
Chang Yan FA, General Manager of the Changchun FAW Group, highlighted the significance of the event during the J6's offline ceremony: "Fifty-one years ago, the first Liberation car rolled off the assembly line, ending China’s inability to manufacture vehicles. Today, the release of the J6 demonstrates that China now has the capability to produce world-class heavy trucks."
As the pioneer of China's commercial vehicle sector and the country's largest truck brand, the Liberation series has played a crucial role in shaping the industry. From the original CA10 model to the newly launched J6, the brand has evolved over five decades, with each generation bringing groundbreaking advancements to the field.
The J6 was developed with a strong emphasis on independent innovation. FAW rejected foreign collaboration offers and focused on integrating global technologies with its own R&D efforts. The project took six years to complete, involving an investment of hundreds of billions of yuan and leading to over 300 technological innovations, including 197 national patents.
One of the key highlights of the J6 is its Olympian 13-liter diesel engine, which represents a major achievement in FAW’s independent research. Featuring a common-rail fuel injection system, this engine delivers up to 460 horsepower and is the largest domestically produced engine in terms of displacement.
At the offline ceremony, Hessler, Deputy General Manager of the International Certification Department for Vehicle Products at the Rhine Company, announced that the J6 meets the standards of similar European models. He also praised FAW for entering the ranks of world-class commercial vehicle manufacturers.
This launch marks the beginning of a new era for high-end heavy trucks in China, showcasing the country’s growing strength in automotive engineering and international competitiveness.
