Japan's three-source (FFI) has recently introduced a groundbreaking product line called "Sangpa Staier," utilizing an innovative technology for fine powder pigmentation. This new series is designed to meet the growing demand in the food industry, particularly in the hobby tablet, cool-type cake, confectionery, and dietary supplement markets.
The Sangpa Staier products offer a soft, light color that is ideal for coloring powders used in tableting medicines, cake-type desserts, and chocolates. These products are now available on the market and have already gained attention for their unique performance. The pigments are micronized to an average particle size of 1–5 μm, using advanced technology that addresses common issues like heat-induced denaturation during processing. This ensures better color stability and prevents discoloration when mixed with powders.
In direct compression tablet manufacturing, traditional pigments often result in uneven, dot-like coloring due to their larger particle size. However, the Sangpa Staier pigments are finely processed, allowing for uniform dispersion. As a result, they deliver a 1.5 times stronger color effect compared to conventional pigments. Most notably, they do not leave stains and have been tested to show excellent color stability.
The product line includes four natural pigments: beet red, riboflavin, gardenia blue, and spirulina. One of its key advantages is the ability to produce bright primary colors, enabling manufacturers to create any desired shade by adjusting the mixing ratios. The preparation process is simple and efficient, making it highly appealing to food producers.
Moreover, the streamlined production process reduces costs and improves efficiency, which has led to widespread praise from industry professionals. For example, chocolate makers often avoid emulsifier-based pigments because they can alter the texture and flavor of the chocolate. In contrast, the Sangpa Staier pigments can be directly added to white chocolate, resulting in evenly colored, high-quality products without compromising taste or texture.
With these benefits, the new pigment series shows great potential in both the tablet and chocolate markets, offering a reliable, versatile, and cost-effective solution for food manufacturers.
