Chicago responded to a 2-11 alarm for a fire at 3056 N. Milwaukee Avenue on Monday morning. The Chicago Tribune reported that the fire broke out at 9:24 a.m. in the two-story building, which housed a bakery on the first floor and apartments on the second. When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was coming from the basement, and the ceiling appeared to be involved in the blaze, according to fire department spokesman Larry Langford.
Fortunately, no one was inside the building at the time of the fire. Firefighters quickly worked to contain the flames, but the intense heat forced them to pull back temporarily. A Mobile Ventilation Unit was dispatched to help manage the situation. Tim Olk and Steve Redick were on the scene, with Steve sharing a video and Tim capturing several powerful images of the incident.
The fire had a significant impact on the neighborhood, drawing attention from local residents and media. Firefighters used a hand line from a neighboring rooftop to attack the fire from above, while another team focused on ventilation to clear out the smoke. The 13th Battalion was also seen removing roofing materials as part of the operation.
As the fire raged inside the second floor, firefighters climbed the rear stairs to assess the situation and continue their efforts. The scene was intense, with crews working tirelessly to prevent the fire from spreading further.
