Excerpts from DailyHerald.com: Mount Prospect Fire Chief Brian Lambel is pushing for the village’s board of fire and police commissioners to terminate an employee he claims has made alarming remarks. The incident involves Firefighter/Paramedic Lloyd Miller, a 12-year veteran who has been on paid administrative leave since January. The official complaint states that Miller allegedly told a colleague, Joseph Reschke, that he would “kill some people†if he wasn’t added to the promotion list. It also mentions that other firefighters are reportedly afraid of him. In addition, co-workers provided the department with Facebook photos showing Miller shooting at a target that resembled Osama bin Laden, as well as a poster of the terrorist with multiple bullet holes. Lambel plans to bring the matter before the commission during a hearing this Thursday evening but has not offered further comment beyond what’s in the filing. Martin Miller’s attorney, Dan Herbert, called the allegations “absurd,†claiming they were retaliation for Miller’s public comments about the village when he ran for a position on the firefighters’ union board. Miller had sought a spot on the union executive committee in November and December. The complaint details that on January 13, Miller expressed frustration over being transferred to a different station and criticized changes to the lieutenant’s testing process by the union president. He reportedly said he would kill someone if he wasn’t placed on the next lieutenant list. Reschke reported the statement, and just four days later, on January 17, Miller was put on paid leave pending an investigation. On January 24, Lambel required Miller to undergo a fitness-for-duty evaluation. During the session, Miller, who owns a handgun and a shotgun, claimed he had never fired either weapon. He denied being a gun enthusiast and said he didn’t know the brand, caliber, or type of ammunition he purchased. However, several coworkers shared copies of six Facebook images with the department. These included photos of Miller holding a gun and shooting at a target that looked like Osama bin Laden, as well as one where he stood in front of a large poster of the terrorist with about 20 bullet holes. In response, the complaint notes that Miller denied making the threatening statements and even claimed he couldn’t recognize himself in the photos.
