Excerpts from DailyHerald.com: Mount Prospect Fire Chief Brian Lambel is asking the village’s board of fire and police commissioners to terminate an employee who, according to the chief, made threatening remarks. The incident has sparked a formal investigation and raised concerns within the department. The complaint filed by Chief Lambel details allegations against Firefighter/Paramedic Lloyd Miller, a 12-year veteran of the department who has been on paid administrative leave since January. According to the document, Miller reportedly told a colleague that he would “kill some people†if he wasn’t placed on the promotion list. The statement has left his coworkers feeling uneasy, with some even expressing fear around him. Additionally, the complaint mentions that Miller had posted photos on Facebook showing him shooting at a picture of Osama bin Laden. These images have further fueled concerns about his behavior and mental state. Lambel stated that the matter will be reviewed during a hearing scheduled for Thursday evening. He declined to comment further beyond what was included in the official report. Miller’s attorney, Dan Herbert, called the accusations “absurd†and claimed they were retaliation for Miller’s public comments about the village when he ran for a position on the firefighters’ union executive board. Earlier this year, Miller sought a spot on the union’s leadership team, attending meetings in November and December. During one of these meetings, he expressed dissatisfaction with a recent station transfer and changes to the lieutenant’s testing process. He allegedly told a fellow firefighter that he would “kill some people†if he didn’t make the next promotion list. Following this statement, Joseph Reschke reported the incident, and on January 17, Chief Lambel placed Miller on paid administrative leave pending a full investigation. A fitness-for-duty evaluation was also conducted on January 24. During the evaluation, Miller, who owns a handgun and a shotgun, denied ever firing either weapon. He also claimed not to be a gun enthusiast and said he didn’t know the brand, caliber, or type of ammunition he had purchased. However, several of Miller’s colleagues provided the chief with copies of six Facebook photos showing Miller holding a gun and shooting at a target image of Osama bin Laden. One photo showed him standing in front of a large poster of bin Laden with about 20 bullet holes. Despite being shown the photos, Miller denied making the threats and even claimed he couldn’t recognize himself in the images.
