SITE BITE: Accessing Hard-to-Reach HVAC Ceiling Units

Every year, Nationwide Coils handles hundreds of commercial site visits. Many times, these involve HVAC units mounted between 15 to 30 feet high. These installations are particularly common in retail spaces, though you’ll find them in all sorts of industrial settings too.

An HVAC unit we recently accessed during a service call to a major U.S. retailer.

Just last week, I was called out to Mt. Vernon Middle School to take measurements for a hot water coil and a DX evaporator coil inside a Carrier 7.5-ton ceiling unit. As if revisiting middle school wasn’t daunting enough, this particular unit was suspended 30 feet in the air with the building's infrastructure blocking easy access. The contractor initially planned to lower the entire unit just to get the dimensions, which would’ve been both time-consuming and costly. But after a bit of brainstorming, I decided to brave the heights and examine the unit first.

Luckily, with a combination of skill and precision, I managed to gather the necessary measurements without having to drop the unit. This saved the contractor both time and money, ensuring yet another satisfied client. And who knew revisiting middle school could be such a learning experience?
