Why choose Holyme?
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share some photos I managed to snap during my time at O’Hare (ORD) for the annual ARFF and Haz-Mat training session. It was a busy few days, but I found moments here and there to get some shots of the rigs in action.
One of the rigs that caught my eye was 5-3-1, which carries a Zumro tent, some HVAC equipment for the Zumro system, and also has decon gear on board. This one’s based at ORD Rescue Station 1. Then there’s 8-8-1A, which is currently stationed at the AMC building at ORD.
The training facility had several rigs present for the Zumro tent setup drills. These included 6-5-7S (a spare rig), Engine 9, and the brand-new 2-7-8. And let’s not forget 6-5-T, which is the training rig for the pit area. It’s an older model—a 1988 Oshkosh T-3000 crash rig.
Back at ORD, 2-9-8 serves as the training officer, while 2-9-12 is the current coordinator for the live fire simulators. I also snapped some images of Lockport Rescue 6 getting ready to tackle a fire simulation in the pit. There’s another great shot of Orland Engine 8 (which is a reserve unit) pumping water through handlines during the same exercise—both for the pit area and the Wheel/Brake/Interior simulator.
I’ll be honest, capturing these photos wasn’t easy with all the activity going on. But it’s always worth it when you get to see how well-prepared everyone is for any situation. Check out the photos below—they really capture the energy of the day.
Take care,
Mike Lopina
