This message comes from Eric Haak: Here's a quick update from the scene of a fire that broke out early this morning in Oak Forest. The incident started around 4:42 AM when Markham Fire Department responded to a commercial property located at the intersection of 165th and Pulaski. Markham Engine 33 arrived first and immediately reported seeing flames coming through the roof of a small warehouse. As it turned out, this was actually Oak Forest's jurisdiction, and they quickly dispatched their resources as well. The fire was burning inside a 50x50 metal-clad building that seemed to be full of various vehicles. Unfortunately, the nearest hydrant was approximately 300 feet away, and access to the site was quite tight, making firefighting efforts challenging. The emergency response escalated into a full box alarm at 5:11 AM. Firefighters tackled the blaze using three lines positioned at the front of the structure while cutting ventilation holes in the back of the building later on. I stayed there long enough to see the initial stages but left before the fire was completely extinguished. From what I witnessed, crews worked tirelessly under freezing conditions—temperatures stayed just above zero throughout the operation. It was an intense scene with multiple engines and trucks from nearby departments converging to help bring the situation under control. Attached are some photos I took during my time on-site. These images capture moments like Markham FD personnel operating their engine, teams handling large hoses, and even some firefighters cutting through the metal siding of the building with saws. Hazel Crest FD Truck 27 and Oak Forest FD Truck 40 were both present, showcasing the collaborative effort between neighboring departments. Please note that these pictures only represent part of the overall response due to limited visibility and safety concerns. If you have any questions or need further details about the event, feel free to reach out!
