**From the Prospect Heights Fire District:** *Posted on January 26, 2022, at 8:30 p.m.* This evening, at approximately 7:48 p.m., the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District received a call about a possible fire at a residence located at 108 Patricia Street in Prospect Heights. As soon as our teams arrived on the scene, they observed flames engulfing the attic area of a two-story house. Thick smoke was billowing out from every part of the roof, but thankfully, the fire had not yet spread inside the home. Within just a few minutes, the first responding fire engine managed to direct a hose stream onto the flames, successfully dousing the initial fire. Our firefighters then turned their attention to extinguishing the blaze that had spread further into the roof and attic. At the same time, a thorough search of the house confirmed that all occupants were safely outside. Thanks to the swift efforts of our team, the fire was fully controlled and put out within about 20 minutes of our arrival. Two hose lines and over a dozen firefighting vehicles were utilized to manage the situation. Roughly 40 firefighters were part of the response force. Afterward, crews spent close to an hour carefully checking for any remaining hotspots or signs of fire spread to ensure the area was entirely safe. The firefighting operation involved significant support from multiple neighboring departments. In addition to the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District and the Wheeling Fire Department, which were initially dispatched, additional assistance came from Des Plaines, Glenview, Mount Prospect, and Libertyville fire departments, along with the Elk Grove Township, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Long Grove fire protection districts. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. In light of this incident, the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District wants to remind everyone of the importance of having multiple escape routes from your home and ensuring smoke detectors are installed and functioning correctly. It’s also crucial to have a well-thought-out emergency plan in place in case of a fire or Other disasters. We’d like to stress how critical fire sprinklers are in saving lives and protecting property. If this building had been equipped with fire sprinklers, the initial fire could have been contained or extinguished before the arrival of the fire department, potentially limiting damage significantly. Below are some photos taken by Larry Shapiro, capturing the intense but coordinated effort of our firefighters. These images highlight the dedication and professionalism of our team during such emergencies.
