Late last night, a massive fire broke out on Davis Street in Evanston, devastating a commercial building. I’ve managed to gather some early cell phone images from Steve Redick and Tim Olk. The situation unfolded quickly, catching everyone by surprise.
According to reports from the Chicago Tribune, the fire began around 2:24 AM at the Pine Yard Restaurant located near the intersection of Davis Street and Oak Avenue. By 2:34 AM, the emergency had escalated to an additional alarm status. Things took a turn for the worse just twelve minutes later when the flames spread uncontrollably, affecting a total of three commercial buildings in the 1000 block of Davis Street.
The firefighting efforts were intense, but unfortunately, one firefighter sustained an ankle injury while battling the blaze. He was rushed to Evanston Hospital, though thankfully his injuries aren’t life-threatening.
