This is Drew Gresik here. So, earlier today, I decided to take a quick drive over to the West Side for a fire call at 742 N Pine. Engine 96 was the first unit to respond to the Main FAO, reporting that they had found a worker trapped inside the office. Engine 117 was the first to arrive on the scene, and they immediately called out a Red X for a 2.5-story building with heavy fire spreading across the second floor and into the attic at the rear. By the time I got there, about 20 minutes after the initial report, the entire top floor was engulfed in flames.
Engines 96, 117, and 113 were already working hard to pump water onto the fire, while Tower 14 set up their master stream to douse the flames. Trucks 26 and 29 were also on the scene, adding more resources to the operation. Engine 23 and Trucks 35 and 53 were parked nearby in staging, but it seemed like they weren't needed for this particular incident. Interestingly enough, just as the companies were getting ready to stretch their lines for this fire, Engine 95, Truck 7, and Battalion 4 responded to a smaller fire on Kostner Avenue, just south of Madison. That kept them occupied for a bit before they could join the larger operation.
By the time I arrived, the firefighters were doing an incredible job trying to control the situation. The heat was intense, and the smoke was thick, making it a challenging scene to photograph. But I managed to snap a few shots. The images really capture the scale and intensity of the fire. Engine 96 was particularly active, leading the charge alongside the other units.
