On July 6th, Sinopec's reforming catalyst successfully secured a bid from Taiwan's CNPC, marking a significant breakthrough in the export of catalytic reforming technology. This achievement represents the first time that Sinopec's reforming catalysts have been exported, completing the full range of catalytic catalyst exports. This success was driven by the close collaboration between the catalyst division and research institutions, which implemented zero-time difference, zero-charge, and one-stop technical services throughout the entire process. As a result, the value chain of the catalysts has continuously expanded, and user satisfaction has steadily increased.
From January to June this year, sales rose by 8.8% year-on-year, with exports surging by 60.8%. Faced with growing competition, the Catalyst Branch launched a comprehensive service enhancement initiative in 2007, designating it as the Year of Innovation, Service, and Management. The goal was to build a strong brand image for China Petrochemical Catalyst. In delivering comprehensive solutions, the branch focused more on users' actual needs, offering free-of-charge services and promising on-site support within 12 hours for domestic clients—no longer than 24 hours at maximum. The whole-process service covers everything from product request to post-use evaluation.
Each subsidiary established a technical service center, opened a dedicated hotline, and hired professional personnel from user companies as market information officers and supervisors. They provided pre-sale, in-sale, after-sale, technical evaluations, recycling, trade-in, and storage services, promoting "one-stop" and "full-service" options. The user visit system was maintained to ensure continuous communication and relationship building.
In 2007, the company also refined and improved technical service standards, initiated service supervision, and formed a technical service oversight team to monitor and evaluate the implementation of services across all branches. This helped drive ongoing improvements in service quality.
During the construction of Hainan Refining & Chemicals Co., Ltd., the Catalyst Branch was responsible for transporting, storing, filling, and starting the catalyst for the first time. It marked the company’s first attempt at a “one-stop†service model. A leading group was set up to manage the supply and start-up process, ensuring timely and user-compliant execution of production, transportation, and filling activities. Meanwhile, the Technical Service Working Group was deployed to the site, collaborating with research institutes to participate in the entire start-up, adjustment, calibration, and summary of the facilities. This ensured smooth plant operations and earned high confidence from Hainan Refining & Chemicals.
In April, after signing a strategic cooperation agreement with the China National Petroleum Corporation's Oil and Gas Center, the Catalyst Branch expanded its services to various companies under the center. It also engaged experts from the Institute of Stone Science and Technology to provide on-site technical support, leading to the signing of an annual procurement and sales contract.
To help customers understand the performance of new products quickly, the Catalyst Branch invited overseas clients to visit production sites. Alongside, technical teams conducted in-depth training and guidance at customer factories, sharing insights on new product features and market trends, thus enhancing market share.
The Taiwanese market remains a key focus for expanding sales through superior technical services. From February 2004 to now, the Changling Catalyst Branch, with support from the Institute of Stone Science, has sent expert teams for on-site technical assistance 11 times, adjusted catalyst formulas five times, and published over 30 technical articles. Yu Feng has also offered valuable operational advice, technical lectures, and information to users. Over the past three years, Sinopec’s catalyst presence in Taiwan has not only solidified but also grown. Today, several refineries in Taiwan use Sinopec-branded catalytic cracking catalysts. International oil giants like BP and Shell have shown interest and are eager to adopt Sinopec catalysts in the near future.
