Arkema (China) Investment Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Coking Co., Ltd. recently announced that the annual production capacity of hydrogen peroxide at Shanghai Arkema Hydrogen Peroxide Co., Ltd. will more than double, increasing from 38,000 tons per year to 77,000 tons per year. The expansion project is set to begin soon, with full-scale operations expected to start in 2007. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Shanghai Arkema Hydrogen Peroxide Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Arkema and Shanghai Coking Chemicals. A representative from Arkema Group’s hydrogen peroxide business division stated that this expansion represents a significant milestone in the company’s development within the Greater China region. The increased output is aimed at meeting the growing demand for hydrogen peroxide in China and across Asia. The newly expanded facility will be capable of producing high-concentration hydrogen peroxide, including specialized grades suitable for use in food processing and electronics. Both companies are already planning the next phase of expansion, which, if completed, would bring annual production to over 100,000 tons. In recent years, China has placed a strong emphasis on environmental protection, leading to a steady increase in the domestic consumption of hydrogen peroxide, with usage rates rising by over 10% annually. Shanghai Arkema Hydrogen Peroxide Co., Ltd. is currently the second-largest producer of hydrogen peroxide in China. It stands out as one of the few companies in the country that designs and produces hydrogen peroxide using advanced Western technology, making it a key player in the industry.
