The China FAW Group Technical Center made history by developing China's first independently designed V12 engine—the CA12GV. This high-performance passenger car engine marks a significant milestone, as it fills a critical gap in the domestic market and demonstrates that China has successfully mastered the technology behind top-tier automotive engines.
The V12 engine is an advanced, all-aluminum, air-jet injection gasoline engine specifically developed for the new HQE Hongqi model. It incorporates numerous cutting-edge technologies and innovative structural designs that have never been seen in China before. The engine not only meets international standards but also represents a major leap forward in the country’s automotive engineering capabilities. This achievement follows FAW’s previous breakthroughs in developing the JB8 engine and gasoline direct injection technology, further solidifying its position as a leader in independent engine development.
Through this project, FAW has gained valuable expertise in V-type engine design and manufacturing. This knowledge will serve as a strong foundation for future developments of V6 and V8 engines, expanding the company's capabilities in high-end powertrain solutions.
According to FAW’s project timeline, the V12 engine was scheduled to enter mass production in April 2009, providing powerful and reliable performance for the high-end Hongqi HQE model. This engine is expected to enhance the brand's prestige and technical reputation both domestically and internationally.
