The just-opened 2016 Rio Olympics is a great opportunity for athletes to show themselves. Using sensors and LED lights, GE allows athletes to express world-class power and beauty in a unique way: allowing athletes to draw a special piece of work with light. In order to successfully present the performance of athletes, GE has designed several sensors to capture different state changes during body movement, including acceleration, muscle activity and pulse. GE's global business marketing leader Steve Pepe said: GE uses sensors to receive analog pulses and convert signals into digital information, with custom software measurements and noise processing, and then convert analog signals into a series of different Red green and blue LED lights. GE uses the information it collects to control the characteristics of the lights, such as intensity, color, and frequency. According to Pepe's instructions, the information received from the sensor is converted to light at a rate of 240 updates per second, so that the athlete's activity can be reflected very accurately. These LED lights become like digital brushes. Using slow-motion photography and time-lapse exposure photography, the light can be visualized to show the flexibility of the athlete's posture. The members of the lighting program are a group of outstanding athletes. Gymnast Josh Dixon, pole vaulter Kortney Ross and weightlifter Donovan Ford and volleyball player Angela Bensend are all involved. They put on sensors and LED lights to record the action. Basketball players Trevon Jenifer and venue freelancer Sarah Hammer also joined the experiment, and they are all members of the US team on the Rio. Pepe speculates that in the future, when watching sports events, it is possible to instantly know that athletes' physical changes may become normal. At the same time, the function of the lighting system may not only be the case, GE is currently closely developing smart LED lighting systems for actively responding to environmental and operational data.
