On Sunday evening, Wheeling Fire Department responded to an automatic alarm and discovered smoke coming from an industrial facility located at 301 W. Hintz Road. The fire originated from a machine in the rear of the building. Local departments including Prospect Heights, Buffalo Grove, and Glenview quickly arrived on scene to assist. Thanks to the quick response, the fire was swiftly extinguished using a hand line and the building's sprinkler system. A team from Wheeling Tower 42 climbed to the roof to check for fire extension and help with ventilation as smoke escaped through the overhead door. Meanwhile, Wheeling Engine 24, a Spartan/Crimson unit, was en route for a Code 4 upgrade but immediately connected to a hydrant to support the sprinkler system. Another photo captured the same engine at the sprinkler connection, showing the critical role it played in controlling the fire. Engine 42, operating as Engine 23, remained half a block away as the "still" engine, ready to respond if needed. Buffalo Grove Tower 25 also arrived on scene, setting up in the rear of the building to assist with firefighting efforts. Prospect Heights Engine 39, a custom-built Alexis unit on an American LaFrance Eagle chassis, provided automatic aid as part of the initial response. In addition to the fire suppression efforts, large fans were deployed at the receiving dock to ventilate the building and remove smoke. These actions helped ensure the safety of the structure and minimized damage. More photos from the incident can be seen HERE.
