On Sunday evening, Wheeling Fire Department responded to an automatic alarm at an industrial facility located at 301 W. Hintz Road. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the rear of the building, where a malfunctioning machine was the source of the fire. The incident was quickly managed with the help of nearby departments, including Prospect Heights, Buffalo Grove, and Glenview. Using a hand line and the building’s sprinkler system, the fire was extinguished efficiently. A team from Wheeling Tower 42 was deployed to the roof to check for fire extension and assist with ventilation as smoke escaped through the overhead door. Meanwhile, Engine 24, a Spartan/Crimson unit, arrived on scene and connected to a hydrant to supply water to the sprinkler system. Another photo captures the same engine at the sprinkler connection, highlighting its critical role in controlling the blaze. Engine 42, operating as Engine 23, remained stationed half a block away as a backup unit. Buffalo Grove’s Tower 25 also arrived and set up in the rear of the building, ready to assist with any further development. Prospect Heights’ Engine 39, a custom-built Alexis unit on an American LaFrance Eagle chassis, provided automatic aid as part of the initial response. In addition to the firefighting efforts, large fans were used at the receiving dock to ventilate the area and remove smoke. These actions helped ensure a safe environment for both responders and the surrounding community. More photos from the incident can be seen HERE.
