Several months ago, we published an update on the Naperville Fire Department to the site. A number of photographers visited the department on different occasions to capture the latest equipment and the current station assignments. Some of the apparatus had been relocated or reclassified since they were last photographed a year or so ago, but with the help of Naperville Lieutenant Andy Hilk, everything was updated for the posting.
Well, we recently received word that the Naperville FD wasn't quite finished with their reassignments and more changes were on the way. Bill Friedrich shared some detailed updates about the ongoing shifts across the stations.
- Medic 9 is now out of service.
- Medic 1 has been reassigned to the 2007 IHC/Medtec unit that was previously Medic 9.
- Squad 1 (a 1997 E-One) has returned to Station 8 and is now called Squad 8 — once again.
- Engine 8’s 2008 Crimson pumper has moved back to Station 1 as Engine 1.
- The 2009 Crimson quint from Truck 10 is now operating as Truck 5.
- The 2005 E-One tower ladder that was once Truck 5 is now a spare.
- The 1994 E-One tower ladder without a pump that was in reserve has been decommissioned and will likely be sold.
- Engine 10 is now using a 2005 E-One Typhoon.
- The TRT trailer is being relocated to Station 10.
These updates reflect a dynamic shift in resources and personnel, ensuring that each station is optimally equipped and staffed. It's always interesting to see how departments adapt and evolve over time. We'll continue to keep you posted on any further changes.
