Incat, based in Tasmanian, Australia, recently won a contract to build the world's first high-speed LNG-powered Ro-Pax ferry. Incat Chairman Robert Clifford said it was the first LNG-powered vessel in the future. The captain, 99 meters long, can travel over 1,000 passengers and 153 cars. It will be built by the Incat Tasmania shipyard and is expected to be delivered in 2012.

Incat works closely with design and technical staff from GE Europe and the United States to install a LNG-powered dual-fuel engine on the ship, driven by a GE Energy LM2500 gas turbine, a Wärtsilä LJX 1720 waterjet, GE Energy The LM2500 gas turbine will be modified to meet LNG or marine fuel requirements, reducing pollution emissions and operating costs. The LNG fuel tank will be mounted to the upper part of the double-hull fuel tank and fuel switching is automatically controlled.
